Conference Programme and Speakers

The conference aims include but are not limited to:

  • Giving Air News clients the opportunity to network with other community stations

  • Help Air News clients to achieve their aims/ mission by attracting sponsorship and produce excellent on air material

  • How to look after / encourage and mentor your staff and volunteers.

SATURDAY 17th February

8am to 9am - Registration and informal catch up. 

9am - Welcome, Introductions and meet the Air News Team (TD)

9.20am - What's going to be your big take away from the Conference? (TD)

9.35am - What are The 5 Pillars of Community Radio Programming? (DR)

10.45am to 11am - Morning Tea

11am - Why should you develop a sound hour? Interactive Session, building good content. (TD/DR)

12.30pm to 1.30pm Buffet Lunch

1.30pm - Creating good Local content? Mentoring staff and quality control. Cohesive teams (or skill sets) (TS)

2.30pm - New products for Air News Clients.

3pm to 3.15pm - Afternoon Tea

3.15pm to 4.30pm - Keep the station going, redundancy, emergency situations. Handling problems eg. No or Old News ! (TD)

6.30pm to 10.30pm - Inaugural Air News Conference Dinner and Radio Trivia Night.

SUNDAY 18th February

9am to 10.45am - (DR / CC)

  • How to Develop Manage and Operate a Successful Community Radio Station

  • Living In The Listener’s World and implementing the 5 pillars of programming.

10.45am to 11am - Morning Tea​

11am to 12.15pm - (DR / PL / and panel.)

  • Where does Promotions, Sponsorships, and Marketing Fit in?

  • Selling – is it a thing of the past?

  • Who authorises a client to go to air?

  • Where is the contract kept?

  • Who is writing copy and the contract?

  • Closing the sale! The 80/20 revenue principal.

12.15pm to 12.55pm - (TD and DR and panel)​

Terry Daniel

Terry has been involved in the communications industry since leaving school.

He has worked in commercial radio at 8HA Alice Springs, 2GZ Orange and 2CS Coffs Harbour. 

He is currently the owner of Air News Media, Tee Dee Computers, Discovery Apps, You Voice Over and Online Radio 2DD. 

The Daniel brothers have all been involved in the radio industry. Richard still working in media throughout South East Asia. Glenn (dec) worked in Sydney Radio News for nearly 40 years.

Todd Sergeant

Breakfast Announcer & Programme Director at 2NURFM in Newcastle.

With over 25 years experience across most levels of the media Todd brings the ability to look at challenges from all angles with a view to total client satisfaction.
His goals include forming successful and lasting relationships with my clients and providing creative solutions on time and on budget and delivering quality training and mentoring for people inside and outside of the media sphere.

David Rogerson

In a career spanning 30 years, David  has experience in every facet of the radio and media communications industry. 

He has seen action as a Group Programme Director, a National Marketing Manager and Company Director. He was most recently the Group Director for Programming and Content at Grant Broadcasters.   

David has a Masters Degree in Business, an Honours Diploma in Advertising and a graduate of Radio Executive Management program (Notre Dame University, USA). As well as teaching at AIM, David is a visiting specialist guest lecturer at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.

Chayne Cleary

Chayne loves the Central Coast, growing up in Wamberal and Terrigal enjoying everything the Central Coast has to offer, the options are endless.

Chayne has a passion for radio, starting his radio journey at COAST-FM in August 1991.
He has worked at many radio stations and these opportunities assisted Chayne with the skills, and experience in the industry footprint.
He was Coast FM Programme Convenor.

Peter Little

Pete joined CoastFM in Gosford over 15 years ago, following an extensive career in commercial radio, including manager at 2GO and 2CS.

He has made a major contribution to the development of the station in programming and sponsorship sales, and has been awarded life membership.

During trivia games, he excels in answering questions about 60’s and 70’s artists.
